Project Overview

Many instructional designers use editing tools to create engaging learning material, such as job aides, how-to videos, and interactive activities. Video editing, however, can have a steep learning curve due the complexities of video editing software and lack of training in many programs.

Goal: The aim of this project was to create a 60-minute webinar with a mixture of “Absorb, Connect, and Do” activities that taught how-to edit using the “custom animation” tool in Camtasia.

Analysis

Camtasia was chosen as our tool of choice due to:

  • Free access from our University
  • Familiarity with the tool in our full-time positions as instructional designers
  • Lower learning curve compared to Adobe Premiere Pro (another tool we had access to)

Learning outcomes were assessed using backwards design. From there, we:

  • Developed a timeline for materials to be completed, along with assigned tasks
  • Developed a communication plan between ourselves, as well as learners

Communication Plan

Before the webinar occurred, promotional materials were sent out, communication with learners to make sure they had the correct license, as well as learning aides.
